On January 26th, 2025, NIS will hold a new round of first STEM talks. This year’s STEM talk will start at 9:00AM.
“Due to some teacher complaining about the schedules of the STEM talk disrupting the classes, we decided to move the time an hour later, which is after the first period.” Said Mr.Colin, One of the major contributors of the STEM talk.
The Difference between last year’s STEM talk and this year’s STEM talk is due to a rapid increase in speech participants, from 20 in the past few STEM talks to more than 30 this year. Even though most of our judges are staying the same as last year, there is a new judge joining from our school which is Mr.Jack.
Another major difference between last year’s and this year’s STEM talk is that due to the strict time schedule, this year there might not be a guest speaker to start the event. Nevertheless we do get students from other schools as visitors. “Even though there will not be students from other schools participating in this event, we do get student visitors to come and listen to our speeches” explained Mr.Colin.
The NIS journalism team also asked about the participants that will speak at the event. Alen from grade 11, talks about his thoughts about STEM talks and how he does the research and composes his speech. “You have to think about what are the goals that you are trying to reach, and what kind of audiences you are speaking to at that day, because that is the requirements that could help you to make the right speech for the listeners, and with this in mind, you will find a balance within.” Alen said.
NIS journalism hopes that this event will successfully be held and we wish all of our participants a good score!
