On Friday November 21, a group of NIS students participated in CMMUN. The conference was held by Lanna international school. To allow students to fully immerse themselves in the conference, the venue was chosen to be a resort hotel far from the city center. The quiet environment was largely filled with students attending the conference. Will such an ordinary resort bore the students?
Let’s see!
What do we have after a whole day of a busy conference?
Music, games, bonfire, refreshments, dance!
A dance was held in an underground ballroom in the building of the UN Women’s conference room. Upbeat electronic music could be heard as soon as you came down the stairs. Due to the dim lighting, most of the people visible and screams rose and fell. Most people chose to hold hands with friends and form circles, moving to the rhythm of the music. There were also people catching balloons being tossed into the air, creating a joyful atmosphere. The loud music didn’t drown out everyone’s enthusiasm: although everyone was slightly tired after a long day of meetings, they all shed their fatigue and wholeheartedly enjoyed the music and dance.
A short walk across the stream from the hotel leads to an open space. A bonfire was lit after dinner. Delegates, some resting and others fresh from the dance, gradually gathered here. Some carried long sticks, skewered marshmallows, and roasted them near the fire. The evening air was slightly cool at this time of year, and this sweet scent of cotton candy wafted through the air on the breeze. Others simply sat around the fire with friends, chatting about their day’s events.

The building between the bonfire area and the dance hall, originally a restaurant, was converted into a bistro for the evening. Surrounded by a stream, it was indoors, but the doors and windows were often open, so it didn’t feel stuffy. Friends took turns going up on stage, hand in hand , to sing. Those below the stage were not to be outdone, singing along loudly. Others sat a little further away, quietly enjoying tea and snacks with two or three close friends, relaxing contentedly. The day’s fatigue was washed away at that moment.

Through those activities, we can see that the model united nation is not only about debating and arguing. But also is a line that can connect people. Here, you can have new experiences, learn new things, and most importantly, you can make new friends. Friends from different schools, different countries. But now all standing here, for similar reasons.
However, this is a wonderful experience. NIS will also learn a lot from this conference and will improve our school MUN.
If you are also interested in the model united nation, please join our conference next time!
