On June 3, Nakornpayap International School conducted an earthquake drill to help students and staff practice emergency safety procedures.
When the drill began, all students and teachers listened to instructions from Mr. Ben through the school announcement system. Following the directions, everyone immediately took cover under their desks to protect their heads and bodies from potential falling objects. After the initial safety procedure, high school students evacuated to the grass field at D Building, while elementary and middle school students moved to the main field.
Earthquake drills are important because they teach people how to react quickly and safely during an emergency. Since earthquakes often happen without warning, knowing what to do can help reduce panic, prevent injuries, and save lives.
Students and teachers shared different opinions about the drill. Grade 11 student Mona said, “I think it was very useful. This drill was also quite helpful because it gave us a good foundation for knowing what to do if an unexpected earthquake happens in the future. It helped us understand how to react and where to go, so at least we would not feel too scared or confused, and we could avoid dangerous situations.”
However, not everyone felt the drill was equally effective. Grade 11 student Kaka said that he felt the school was not fully prepared and mentioned that the announcement was difficult to hear in some areas.
Mr. Richard offered another perspective. He explained, “I think it was particularly designed not to panic the younger kids, so for high school students all the explanations were really good to understand, but probably teens don’t need to.”
Although there were different opinions about the drill, it provided valuable practice for the school community. The exercise helped students and staff become more familiar with earthquake safety procedures and highlighted areas that could be improved for future emergency drills.
